| Administrative History | Thomas Harrison Thorpe (1871-1957) was the grandson of Mary Thorpe of 74 Wilmot Street, Derby, and is recorded here on the 1881 and 1891 census, the latter as an Architect's Clerk.
By 1901 he is described as an Architect & Surveyor, an employer, and is living in Renals Street, Derby. By 1911 he is living at Coxbench with his wife Esther, and is a partner in the firm known as Wright and Thorpe (reference: Derbyshire Advertiser and Journal, 7 July 1911, page 11). The 1912 Kelly's Trade Directory does not refer to an architect in Derby by the name of Wright, who had perhaps retired, and Thorpe is now working out of offices at 23 St James Street, Derby. Between the mid-1950s and early 1980s, TH Thorpe & Partners operated from 41 Friargate, Derby, until the building was sold to Derby City Council and established as Pickford's House Museum. |
| Custodial History | These records were donated by the son of a former senior partner of TH Thorpe & Partners in the 1960's and 1970's. It is assumed the documents were found in the office at 41 Friargate, Derby when the building was sold in the early 1980s to become the Pickford House Museum. |
