Administrative History | William Gould (1739-1795) was a farmer at Pilsbury land agent to the Duke of Portland. His eldest son Joseph (1765-1825) was also a farmer at Pilsbury and acted as an agent for the Duke of Devonshire. William's second son, also William (1772-1826), became a hosier working in Nottingham and London. He married Mary Turney (1778-1862), whose family were originally from Sedgbrook, Lincolnshire, in 1804. Their daughter, Frances (1809-1887), married George Briggs (1802-1880), coachbuilder. Both Mary and Frances appear to have had a close relationship with their uncle/great uncle, Benjamin Turney (1755-1826). |
