Administrative History
Holyen Morrell Abbott was born in Heanor in 1887, the son of William and Martha. William was an underground coal worker and it seems Holyen followed his older brother Frank into hairdressing. In 1913, Holyen married Bertha Newton, whose family he is recorded as boarding with at 125 Bath Street in the 1911 census. It was probably around this time that Holyen and Bertha moved into 123 Bath Street where the hairdressing business operated.
