Administrative History | The Disbrowe family are descended from the soldier and politician John Desborough (1608–1680), the brother-in-law of Oliver Cromwell. Walton Hall first passed into the ownership of the Disbrowe family in 1773 when it was inherited by Col Edward Disbrowe (d. 1818), Member of Parliament for Windsor. His grand-daughter Jane was married in 1858 to the Member of Parliament for South Warwickshire, Henry Christopher Wise (1806-1883) of Leek Wootton. Their son was Lt Col Henry Edward Disbrowe Wise (1868-1948), whose letter books and game records form a significant part of this collection. |
