TitleMary Brocksopp, Cheltenham, to Mr Barnes, Ashgate
DateSep 1834
DescriptionI have been confined to the house for many weeks and not able to use the least exertion; it was shortness of breath and a good deal of fever; I was obliged to have recourse to medical help; I am now quite recovered and intend going but today for the second time; I have been made extremely comfortable by Miss Carel; I am reported to have a large fortune but do not know who is spreading this report; the gentlemen here at present are mostly dirty Irish fortune hunters; I expect a circular from one of them very shortly; I trust you will settle my quarterly payment for me; when you write, enclose £25 to pay the doctor; Mrs Harrison says they are very much in debt.
