Title | Draft petition to the Earl and Countess of Burlington, the Honourable Sackvil Tufton, Lady Mary his wife, and the Honourable Robert Bruce (co-heirs of William, Marquess of Halifax) from the tenants of their 1/3 part of the lands at Stretton |
Date | [c1730] |
Description | Whereas they have brought a bill in Chancery for dividing the lands into thirds; as the Dukes of Norfolk and Shrewsbury sold their 2/3 to the tenants and as there are over 100 proprietors, the law expenses of such a division would far exceed the value of the property and many overseers would be ruined; the tenants offer to pay 2/3 of the cost of a new survey. |
