Archive Reference / Library Class No.
D8042/359h
Title
William Barnes to his father J G Barnes
Date
6 Dec 1845
Description
the sale of the farm was put off and it is doubtful if it will be let this year; it is 220 acres, about 1/3 pasture; the soil is light; the present tenant has run it into a bad condition; the rent is 20-21s per acre with 2s 1d per acre poor rate and it is owned by Capt. Harcourt, son of the Archbishop of Yorkshire; the house is a queer old place; I shouldn't like to have it.
