Administrative HistoryRichard Johnson and Nephew were a firm of ironmasters and wire drawers based in Bradford, Manchester, with a heritage dating back to 1773. In 1876 the firm opened a new site at Ambergate, on the site of the former ironworks of John and Charles Mold on the banks of the River Derwent.

In 1973 the firm was merged with Thomas Firth and John Brown Ltd, to be known as Johnson and Firth Brown Ltd. In 1981 two steel wire subsidiaries, Johnson and Nephew (Manchester) and Johnson and Nephew (Ambergate) were sold to Cape Gate of South Africa.

The Ambergate site was closed in 1996.
