Title | Plan showing site and location of properties in Alderwasley, Crich and Heage [belonging to Richard Johnson & Nephew] |
Date | [c1860s] |
Description | Location plan contains a brief schedule of properties: 10 in Alderwasley, 5 in Crich, 1 in Heage. The plots are numbered using references from tithe maps (for Alderwasley and Heage, but do not match the Crich tithe map), and the schedule gives descriptions of each and quantities in acres, roods and perches.
Scale approximately 1 inch: 6 chains
The site plan shows one of the plots in greater detail, at a scale of 6 inches: 200 feet. This plot is described on the schedule as "forge, rolling mills, buildings, cottage and yards" (containing 3 acres 1 rood 17 perches) and shows the former Hurt's forge and rolling mills. See D2535/M/4/9 for a plan showing this site c1816 although some alterations have been made to the site by the time of this plan. |

Archivist Note | This catalogue entry was amended in August 2020 following the advice of local historian, Ian Jackson as the site featured on the plan did not correspond with the Richard Johnson & Nephew site as per the present time, nor did it correspond with the site as shown on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps (25 inch to 1 mile). The plan must therefore be dated prior to the publication of the 1st edition c1879. The site on the plan does however correspond to Hurt's forge and rolling mills as shown on the c1816 plan (D25335/M/4/9) and the Alderwasley tithe map of 1841 (D2360/3/36a), 17 August 2020, BS. |
