| Administrative History | There were many Marsdens living and working in Baslow, Edensor and Chatsworth in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Robert Marsden (1795-1857) was born in Endsor, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Marsden; his father is likely the owner of the ledger in this collection. He married Hannah Foskett of Chatsworth (probably a servant) in June 1817. Their daughter Hannah married Joseph Redfearn and lived in Pilsley. Robert was a farmer but by the 1850s, he was living in Pilsley and working as a carpenter; this may have been because the original village of Edensor and his farm were demolished by the Duke of Devonshire.
A Nathaniel Woodhouse married Elizabeth Weston in Chesterfield in 1753. Elizabeth Woodhouse of Pilsley was buried in Baslow, in May 1773. Nathaniel Woodhouse was buried in Edensor in July 1793. The connection between the Marsden family and Nathaniel Woodhouse is not known. |
