TitleIndented marriage settlement made between 1. Benet Hyndeman and Randull his son and heir apparent and 2. Nicholl' Berde of Berde [in New Mills]

DescriptionBy which Hyndeman granted that Randull should be ready to take to wife Jone daughter of Nichol' before the feast of St Martin in Winter [11 November] at Nicholl's reasonable request, that Randull should have half those lands and tenements which Benet has in the hamlet of Kynder in the Township of Bawdon evenly divided by two reasonable men, during Benet's life, also Benet and Alyson his wife granted that if it happen that they be advised to set to farm all their part of the said property or any part of it, Randull shall have it, paying a rent, before any other person, and Benet will stand sole seised to him and his heirs the day of the wedding of all the said lands and tenements etc;
for which wedding and grants Nicholl' granted to Randull that the day of the wedding he would pay 4 marks to him and that he and Thomas More of Shyde Yorde [Shedyard in New Mills] would be bound to Randull by bonds (1) of 40s and (2) of 6 marks, the days of payment as follows - of the first at Annunciation next and of the last at the translation of St Thomas [3 or 7 July] 1486 - and Benet granted to Nicholl' that all the lands etc of which he or any feoffee to his use is seised should descend unencumbered to Randull and Jone and their heirs after Benet's death, excepting present or future wife's dower, and recognisance for surety of the peace. Benet granted that all household staff he had in brass, maslyn, pewter and bedding should come to Randull and Jone after decease of Benet and Alyson, Nicholl' to array his daughter sufficiently "bothe to bedde and backe" and make half the cost of the wedding.
