DescriptionIn consideration of a marriage between Robert Holden and Mary Chamberlain and that Mary has agreed to settle half messuage and several closes are in Thrumpston, and for settling the premises below in the name and blood of John Holden, 1. released to 2. a messuage in Wilne, 3 yardlands of arable, meadow and pasture usually belonging to the messuage and in tenure of John Holden, toft or mease place with Wards Close belonging in possession of John Holden, cottage and lands in possession of John Bladerwick heretofore in the holding of John Kendall deceased, 4 closes in possession of John Holden called Over Close, Neather Close, Chappell Close and the Shrubbs, closes now divided into three called the Ossery alias Osiers or stenyard now in possession of Francis Calladine, all in Wilne, 2 flatts of arable in fields of Wilne and Shardlow called Piggin Flatt and Pultons Flatt in possession of John Holden, piece of meadow ground in Shardlow called the Hall Greene late in possession of William Cowlishaw, cottage and lands in Shardlow with Coate Close usually enjoyed with the cottage, in possession of Robert Bingham, cottage in Shardlow with 5 crofts or closes usually enjoyed with the cottage, heretofore enjoyed by John Holden, and half the manors of Weston, Morly, Smally and Kidsley, to hold to the use of John Holden until the marriage, then as to the Shrubbs and 3 yardlands to the use of Robert Holden for 99 years, then to Farnham and Edward Holden of Weston clerk for Robert Holden's life to preserve the contingent remainders, but permitting Robert to receive the rents, with successive remainders to Mary Chamberlain for life for her jointure, to the eldest son of Robert and Mary and his heirs male, to their 2nd son and his heirs male, to their other sons likewise, to daughters of Robert and Mary successively and their heirs, and to right heirs of John Holden, as to Wards Close, Over Close, Piggins Flatt and Poultons Flatt to the use of John Holden for life, with remainders to Frances Holden for life, Robert Holden for 99 years and then as after above for the Shrubbs and 3 yardlands except that the remainder to Mary Chamberlain for life comes after remainders to her and Robert's sons and daughters and is followed by the remainder to John Holden's right heirs, as to half the manor and all properties for which no use has been declared, to the use of John Holden for life, then to Frances Holden for life in full satisfaction of dower, remainders to Robert Holden for 99 years and as after above for the Shrubbs and 3 yardlands, except that Mary is excluded. Also , if Mary dies without living male issue, after her marriage, and only one daughter, then if Robert Holden pays the daughter £1,000 on marriage or at age 21 and £50 a year from Mary's death until the payment of the £1,000, or if there are 2 or more daughters but no sons, then if Robert pays them £1,500 share and share alike, on marriage or at age 21, and the interest at 5% on the £1,500 share and share alike between Mary's death and the payments of £1,500, then the uses of above settlement are void.
