TitleAt court of Beurepere [Belper] held at Allerwaslegh [Alderwasley] 25 July 26 Henry VI there was a precept to the bailiff by the steward to seize one messuage in Belper recently in the tenure of Thomas Rappok for default of repair and of payment of rent, and 2 closes in the tenure of John Sowter and Alice his wife called Shothulruddynge containing 6 acres and Wateruyddynge containing 4 acres 1 rood, recently appurtenances of the same messuage;
first proclamation was made that if anyone wished he might take the messuage and closes for the ancient rent, and no-one chose to do this;
at court held at Hasilwode [Hazelwood] 17 October 27 Henry VI a second proclamation was made;
at court held at Cowhouse 7 November a third proclamation was made;
at court held at Beurepere [Belper] 28 November a fourth proclamation was made;
at court held at Haselwod [Hazelwood] 19 December, upon a fifth proclamation, John Sowter of Beureper and Alice his wife came and took the closes called Shothulruddynge and Watteruddyng, to hold to them for their lives and then to remain to Robert and John their sons to hold in severalty to them, their heirs and assigns. Rent 6s 10d, entry fine 2s. And ? sought licence to hold in severalty to the aforesaid John Sowter and Thomas his son, half a pasture called Maysterfeld of assart containing 16 acres, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns, at new rent of 6d.
