DescriptionThe release reciting that Edward Large formerly of Derby gentleman by his will dated 3 June 1709 demised all his property to John son and heir of Sir Nathaniel Curzon of Kedleston, Robert Wilmot of Osmaston esquire and Robert Holden of the Inner Temple in trust where an estate at Nuns Green, parish St Werburgh, Derby, of £50 annual value, was concerned, to build thereon 5 small almshouses for 5 poor parsons' or vicars' widows, the profits of the land to be equally divided amongst them;
that his will was carried out and Larges Hospital divided into 5 dwellings, was built;
that Mary (more usually called Hannah) Broom widow by her will dated 6 April 1721 left land in Alvaston to her brother for life, then to Larges Hospital where she lived;
that Robert Holden survived the other 2 trustees and devised* his legal estate in the Hospital property to son in law James Shuttleworth and nephews Lancelot Rolleston esquire and Robert son of Alexander Holden in trust to permit whoever held his lands by virtue of his will to nominate clergymen's widows to vacancies in the almshouses;
that the Reverend Charles Shuttleworth Holden is now entitled to Robert Holden' s lands and wishes new trustees to be appointed;
that Robert son of Alexander Holden survived his cotrustees but died intestate and James Shuttleworth (party 1) is his heir at law and witnessing that in order to appoint new trustees and for 10s paid to 1. by 2. the trust estate, consisting of Larges Hospital built on or near Nuns Green, site of the building and garden belonging, containing c.la, 6 closes in parish of St Werburgh 's Derby (giving acreages and tenants' names) close in Alvaston called Moor Head, about 2 acres, close in Boulton called Moor Head, about 1 acre, which on the parliamentary enclosure of lands in townships of Alvaston and Boulton, 1805, was allotted to the Hospital in exchange of lands given up to Sir Henry Harpur, both in possession of John Sherwin, and parcel of land awarded to the charity in the same award as plot No 109, parish Alvaston, about 4 acres, part of Sinfin Field (detailed description) (and excepting a small part of the Alvaston estate previously sold to redeem land tax on the whole trust estate) was conveyed by 1. to 2. upon the trusts set out in the wills of Edward Large and Hannah Broom and codicil to Robert Holden's will.
