Description
Letters to Revd Dr Thomas Gresley re debts of Sir Nigel Gresley, with occasional copies of replies. Main correspondent is Sir Nigel’s wife Lady Elizabeth Gresley (d. 1793); others include Sir Nigel himself, G Fletcher, Hugh Henshall, Joseph and Thomas Wilkes and Dr Gresley’s brother John. One letter from John Gresley accuses Dr Gresley of “silent, sullen neglect” of Lady Elizabeth. Also includes: undated list of debts due upon the Knypersley estate; correspondence re Dr Gresley’s wish to relinquish the trusteeship and dispute over selection of a replacement and suggested indemnity clause in a draft deed appointing a new trustee.
