Bundle of leases for various lands in Norton Heath
Description
(7) Lease, for lives, by Peter of Gresley to Robert Franceys of Appleby and his wife Margery. Peter hands over and leases to the said Robert and Margery for their whole lives a lease of 2 acres of land in Norton Heath extending to the field of Appleby and lying between the lands of John Colbeyn and of Roger son of Gilbert Bochard. Annual rent from Robert and Margary to Peter of 2s at 2 times of the year at the feast of St Michael 12d and at the feast of St Mary the Virgin in March 12d without any dispute or quibble for all secular service and demands. For a concession Robert and Margery pay 5s. The said Robert cannot be a purchaser in that fee. On the death of Robert and Margery the whole of the said land revert to Peter except the last crop on the land. Witnesses as D77/1/74/2
(8) Lease, for lives, by Peter of Gresley to Roger son of Roger John of Appleby and Nicholas. Peter hands over and leases to the said Roger and Nicholas for their whole lives, 3 ½ acres and one rood of land in Norton Heath lying and extending to field of Appleby near the land of Roger Gilbert. Annual rent to Peter, heirs and assigns from Roger and Nicholas of 2 shillings 6 pence of silver at 2 times of the year at the feast of St Michael 15d and at the feast of St Mary the Virgin in March 15d without any dispute or quibble for all secular service and demands. Moreover it is allowed for Roger and Nicholas to give bequeath or sell or assign the said land within the term without any condition of the said Peter or heirs except a return on the death of Roger and Nicholas the whole land returns to Peter or his heirs except the last crop on the land. (9) Lease, for lives, by Peter of Gresley to Richard Pollard of Austrey and Margary his wife. Peter hands over and leases to Richard and Margery for their whole lives a lease of 2 acres of land in Norton Heath lying near the land of the said Richard Pollard. Annual rent to Peter and heirs and assigns from Richard and Margery of 2 shillings at 2 times of the year at the feast of St Michael 12d and at the feast of St Mary the Virgin in March 12d without any dispute or quibble for al secular service and demands. Witnesses as D77/1/74/2
(10) Lease, for lives, by Peter of Gresley to and Nicholas son of Hugh of Austrey and Margery his wife. Peter gives and leases to Nicholas and Margery for their whole lives, lease 8 ½ acres of land in Norton Heath 2 ½ acres lie at Filowe between the field of Norton and the land of Thomas son of Adam of Austrey 4 acres extend to Sciremere near the land of the said Peter and 2 acres between the lands of the said Peter and of Simon Thomas of Austrey. Annual rent to Peter from Nicholas and Margery of 8 shillings 6 pence of silver at two times of the year at the feast of St Michael 4s 3d and at the feast of St Mary the Virgin in March 4s 3d Lord John of Clinton cannot be a purchaser in that fee. Witnesses as D77/1/74/2
(11) Lease, for lives, by Peter of Gresley to John son of Simon John of Appleby and Richard his brother. Peter hands over lease to John and Richard as lease for their whole lives of 7 acres and 3 roods of land in Norton Heath - 3 acres lie at Roulowe between the lands of Robert son of Matidal and of Robert the miller and extends as far as the field of Austrey, 5 acres and 3 roods at Roulowe between the high road and the field of Appleby land with all belongings and easements in pasture above the said land and above the land which Robert son of Matilda of Appleby and Matilda his wife hold in the same Heath and above the King's road above the said whole land which extends as far as they want for common beasts. Annual rent to the said Peter from John and Richard of 5 s hillings and 10 pence of silver at two times of the year at the feast of St Michael 2s 11d and at the feast of St Mary the Virgin in March 2s 11d for all secular service and demands. Moreover it is allowed to John and Richard to give, bequeath and sell the said land or assign inside the term on any condition except return to Peter or his heirs or assigns. Witnesses as D77/1/74/2
