Description
This sub-series consists of radio play scripts written by Lawrence du Garde Peach that explore the geography, infrastructure and landmarks of Britain. Produced predominantly between the 1930s and 1960s, these plays present topographical and historical subjects in a narrative format. The scripts are organised into several thematic sub-sub-series:
1. Landscapes of Britain – Dramatised narratives focusing on the geographical diversity of the British Isles, including hills, downs and other landforms.
2. The Pageant of the Roads of England – Scripts centred on the history and development of England’s roads and routes from early times to the modern era.
3. Royal Palaces – Dramas depicting the history and significance of royal residences, including Hampton Court, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace.
4. The Waterways of England – Plays exploring rivers and coastal waterways across England, combining geographical and historical information.
Most items are typed scripts, some with manuscript annotations or duplicates indicating revisions or alternative versions prepared for broadcast.
