| Title | Wyatt, Bagshawe and other families |
| Description | Among the Wyatts' clients were the Derbyshire families of Barker, Carleill, Middleton and Bradshaw-Smith and a number of their papers passed into Wyatts' hands. Notable among these are the records of the Barker family which include documents relating to the Duke of Devonshire's estate of which they were, for a period, stewards.
William Wyatt and Benajmin Bagshawe were both active in Liberal and Liberal Unionist politics. Bagshawe acted as Liberal Unionist agent for the Hallamshire and Doncaster divisions, 1885-1905. He was also concerned in many aspects of local life in Sheffield, being a member of the Libraries and Museums Committee, secretary of the Literary and Philosophical Society and holding the offices of Coroner and Registrar of the County Court.
There are also a few estate records relating to the property of the two families but, unfortunately, they are not likely to be of much value from the historical point of view.
This section also includes the business papers of the Hall family, old established solicitors of Castleton, of J. Brown, solicitor of Tideswell and Richard Heyward, surveyor of Bakewell. All were acquired by Benjamin Bagshawe, but whether for their historical interest or as business successor is not clear. |
