Tom Gaunt of Clowne (1907-c1938), International Brigade volunteer
Administrative History
Tom Gaunt was born in Clowne in 1907 and educated at Clowne Senior Boys School before moving to London as a young man. After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, he joined the International Brigades fighting in defence of the Republic. In March 1938, he went missing in action during fighting on the Aragon front.
