Administrative HistoryDuring 1943, Derwent Dam, located by the Ladybower reservoir and the Howden Dam was used by the Lancaster bomber pilots of 617 Squadron, later known as the Dambusters, to practise bombing runs using the new bouncing bomb, prior to raids on German dams in the Ruhr valley.
