Description | The year 1744 saw the late John Taylor bequeathing £100 to be distributed among the poor by the parish vicar and churchwardens. His executors paid this legacy, and it was put out at interest for two years, with this interest being used for the same purpose. However the principal had since lain dead for want of security. So to prevent further loss, the vicar and the churchwardens, through an indenture dated 30 Sep 1748, agreed to pay £100 to purchase Middlehills and Botham's Close, both in Ible. The rent and profits from these lands being applied for the relief of the poor of Wirksworth forever, and distributed yearly at Christmas. |
