Administrative HistoryLeonard Needham conducted the Derby String Orchestra from 1952, and was President of the Derby Music Club for many years. Mr. Needham began his musical career by playing the viola, initially in local orchestras, then in the Carl Rosa Opera Company and in the Llandudno Pier Orchestra. He took up the pianoforte at the age of 18. He continued as a piano soloist until his first serious concert as conductor. This took place on 14 October 1952 at the YMCA Hall in Nottingham. Custodial HistoryThese records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in March 2007, and re-accessioned from D6762 in April 2007.
