TitlePapers relating to a Reading Room and a Sunday School
Date1904-1960
DescriptionIn 1835 a public collection provided a Sunday School, which taught reading, writing, and arithmatic, as well as Scripture. The building was also used as a billiard room, a bandroom, and a scout and guides room. During the Second World War it became an army billet.

Between 1919 and 1959, the Brassington Reading and Recreation Society met in old school building, built in 1832 on Hillside. The Society was run by an elected committee, and usually chaired by the vicar. There were times when the room was closed for lack of funds, but generally this was a strong and popular social club for the men of the village.
