Title
Photograph relating to the Brassington Silver Prize Band
Date
[c.1960]
Description
The village had had a band at least since the celebrations for George III's coronation in 1761. They played at all the outdoor events. The Village Hall committee's accounts, for instance, show a payment to "Brassington Silver Band" of £3-10-0d for playing at the Wakes in August 1946. [www.harrogate.co.uk]
Until around 1960, Brassington had its own band. Numbers gradually decreased until the remaining members joined together with bandmen from Wirksworth and Middleton to form the BMW Band in 1964.
