Title | Sheep Pasture Top |
Date | 1949 |
Description | From the top of the cutting, East of the engine house towards wooden-bodied wagons by the scotches prior to descending. Note the incline top cabin constructed against the cutting wall on the right. The incline was set back on the hillside so as not to distract from the view of the Arkwright's in the valley below. The wooden structure in the foreground below the heather clad cutting is an incline operation indicator connected to the wire rope between the incline foot and the engine house. The former inclines were Cromford (lower section) and Sheep Pasture (upper section), combined in 1857, and then known as Sheep Pasture Incline and not Cromford (as stated on the back of the photograph). |
