Description
C&HPR loco No.2, a 2-2-0 tender loco of 1835, built by E. Bury of Liverpool. It weighed 9½ tons and was 32' 3" in length including the tender. In 1860 this locomotive replaced horses on the High Peak Junction to Sheep Pasture foot section. After 10th April 1865 it was transferred to the Hopton Top to Hurdlow foot section where it remained until 17th March 1868. After this period it worked on the Sheep Pasture top and bottom sections. After taking into LNWR stock in 1871, it was renumbered 2039 and later 1942. Subsequently it was converted to a saddle tank and transferred to Crewe Locomotive Machinery Department, and given the letter 'B' as in the photograph. It shunted at Crewe Works until it was scrapped in May 1876.
