DescriptionFrom the embankment behind the site of the engine house down the 1:13½, 180 yard incline. Note the chains diving below the timbers in the guides to go round the horse capstan. The original engine of 1833 was out of use by 1862 due to colliery subsidence, and from then on was worked by horses.
