Description | Another shot of a 'J94', this time 68006 with an enthusiasts' special on the 1:14 section of Hopton Incline in the last year of the railway. It is the last event on the 30th April 1967, with 68012 not visible as train loco behind the pilot. This was the 2nd attempt to climb Hopton and the locos have just come to a stand! To solve the predicament, the brakes were screwed on, on the rear two brake vans, the train was split and the two 'J94s' restarted on the 1:20 section with the leading pair of brake vans for the summit, before returning to collect the rear two. The accurate identification was possible because of the gentleman in the sheepskin coat with a white collar. The same gentleman is in the photograph in A. R. Kay's pictorial album 'Cromford & High Peak Railway - The Final Years'! |
