| Title | Middleton Bottom |
| Date | 1961 |
| Description | This photograph some 5 years prior to the previous photograph shows the change at the bottom of the incline from its former appearance. Middleton Incline is still operational and didn't close until 3rd June 1963. On the down, line note the rope kept on alignment by the vertically mounted roller before it disappears below ground to the wheel pit. The visitors are from the Stephenson & Manchester Locomotive Society Tour of the Cromford & High Peak Lines. By the small hut on the left is a ¼ mile post. Presumably the water tanks are filled having travelled up from Cromford, and are ready to ascend Middleton Incline. The two leading water tanks are old LNW Webb six-wheeled tenders converted to four-wheel. The water tank beyond is one of the ancient McConnell four-wheeled tender frames. |
