Title | Middleton Top |
Date | 1958 |
Description | Two empty water tanks at the top of the incline in position ready to be 'hung-on' for the descent. Note the 'kip' on the up line rising above the descending line, to prevent wagons after arriving from rolling back to the incline top. Stop blocks are in place on both lines to prevent runaways. Both water tanks are former LNW Webb six-wheel tender designs with the central wheels and axle removed. This was done to enable them to negotiate the sudden change of the track profile at the top of the incline. The nearest tank is No.18. |
