Description | The manufacture of cordage, ropes, and twine began in and around the valleys of Glossop around the beginning of the 19th century. The industry was created primarily to supply the needs of the expanding Lancashire textile trade, to the west of the Glossop valley.
The Jacksons first made ropes and twine at Hobroyd in the 1830s. Over the years the equally well established firms of John Booth & Sons Ltd. and James Rowbottom Ltd., amalgamated with the Jackson Company to form a Group.
During the twentieth century Jackson & Sons began to produce cords for other industries. They supplied materials for products such as electrical cables, furniture, aircraft, and motor cars. |
