Grant and conveyance under the School Sites Act 1841 from Sir John Harpur Crewe of Calke Abbey to the vicar of the parish of Barrow on Trent, of 205 square yards of land in the village street, bounded on the north and east by cottages and gardens belonging to Sir John Harpur Crewe, on the south by the village street and on the west by land belonging to Sir Henry Dalrymple. This location is consistent with the 1843 building known as Sale and Davys school, which later relocated to the south side of the road. The land is conveyed to hold, upon trust to permit the buildings erected on it to be used "for a school for the education of children and adults or children only of the labouring manufacturing and other poorer classes". The deed also declares that the school shall be conducted upon the principles of the National Society. Enrolled in Chancery 6 Feb 1876, received by the Charity Commissioners 29 May 1876
