Description | This wide ranging study includes sections on Peak District geology, origins of Bradwell, physical survey, climate and vegetation, occupational pursuits including leadmining, spar mining (with example of spar), quarrying, Earles' cement works, Brough corn mill, Bamford Cotton Mill, and modern road reconstruction. Social aspects covered include the influence of the leadmining industry on growth of the village in the 19th century and its effect on housing, 20th century housing problems, social services in the village including recreation and amusements, sanitation, water supply, telephone services, postal services, shops and commercial activities. The thesis concludes with a chapter 'Looking Forward'. The thesis includes maps, sketches and photographs by the author.
