Makeney House Hospital
Administrative History
Makeney House was built for the Strutt family. It was purchased by Derbyshire County Council in 1932 to be used as a Certified Institution under the control of the Mental Deficiency Acts Committee. It provided care solely for female patients, of whom there were 80 in 1938. After the establishment of the National Health Service, it became known as Makeney House Hospital.
