Administrative History
The company was founded in Oct 1899 for the purpose of carrying on the rade of Hide Skin and Fat Merchants, Brokers and Commission Agents. They had premises at Gluman Gate, later expanding to Durrant Road.
They were bought by Strong & Fisher (Holdings) p.l.c. of Rushden, Northants in 1974. In 1984 the Durrant Road site was sold to Chesterfield Borough Council. The Chesterfield Hide & Skin Co. Ltd. went into voluntary liquidation in 1986. Strong & Fisher were closed down after a management buy-out in 1997.
