Administrative History | Clay Cross was originally a New Connexion Methodist Circuit. In 1907 New Connexion Methodists joined United Free Methodist sand Bible Christians to form the United Methodist Church. By the 1920s the circuit was known as Clay Cross and Stonebroom. In 1932 the United Methodists joined the Wesleyan and Primitive Methodists to form the Methodist Church.
The Circuit included churches in Clay Cross (D5564-D5568, D5573), Handley (D3506, D5572), Woolley Moor (D5586), Littlemoor, Milltown, Danesmoor (D5570, D5570), Tupton (D5271, D5583), North Wingfield (D5577), Holmewood (D3760, D5574-D5576), Higham (D5604), Shirland (D5580-D5581), Brackenfield (D5584), Stonebroom (D5582, D5603), Tibshelf (D5585, D5601), Grassmoor (D5571) and Pilsley (D5578, D5602). |
