Description | The medieval deeds and early papers in this series (dated 1277 to 1609) relate predominantly to messuages and lands in Stapenhill owned by the Tapperto and Ernald families. Other medieval deeds relate to property in Measham and Oakthorpe. By his will, dated 1609, William Tapperto devised his estate to his brother in law John Wakefield. The later 17th and 18th century papers in this series concern the Wright and Dodsworth families of Stapenhill, who were perhaps connected to the Tapperto family through William Tapperto's daughter Elizabeth Wright although this is not explicitly stated within the papers. The Dodsworth family of Stapenhill were, in the 19th century, connected by marriage to the Wheeldon family of Derby, for which see series D5549/2 below.
