Administrative History
John Harrison was born in Derby in 1817 and died in Chesterfield in 1911. Harrison had been in Chesterfield since his apprenticeship as a cordwainer in the 1830s. He then set up his own firm of shoe and boot manufacturers (later, wholesalers) on Knifesmithgate. John Harrison and Sons became a limited company in 1904. It finally closed in the late 20th or early 21st century.

These records were donated by a private individual to Derbyshire Record Office in 2001. They were box-listed by volunteer Mavis Twyford
