Administrative History | According to trade directories of 1857 and 1860, Thomas Merry was a chemist and druggist of Market Place, Ilkeston. According to trade directories 1881-1899, William Merry was a chemist, ironmonger, agent for a wine and spirit merchant, and registrar of marriages, whose place of work was Market Place, Ilkeston. By 1908 he had died, his business being run by his executors.
The next known owner of the pharmacy premises was Harry Dyson in the 1920s, although that his business became that of Messrs A & A Williamson in about 1936. Messrs A & A Williamson became a limited company, although the business was later owned by T R Smith by at least 1947. The name of the firm had been changed to Redvers Smith Ltd by the 1960s |
Custodial History | The records were found in a loft in premises in Market Place, Ilkeston and donated via Ilkeston Museum to the Derbyshire Record Office in August 2001 and August 2004. |
