Title | Draft lease for 21 years by Thomas Wright, gentleman, of Bridgehouses, Sheffield, to Henry Sampson, farmer, of Chapletown, Ecclesfield (county Yorks.), of messuage called Ryley's House in Birkin (Yorks), with Chappel field (15 acres) which Mr. Bateman, present tenant, may possess until 29 Sept. 1741, at rent of £6 per annum to Wright and £6 per annum to Sampson, 2 closes called great and little Cow Closes (26 acres), 4 closes called West springs, exclusive of little spring wood lately fenced in (62 acres), the gronnes or closes called Bawn springs (47 acres), 3 closes formerly part of Bawn springs, called Bateman's Bawn Spring Close and Ottleys Bawn Spring Closes (20½ acres), and all arable or field land dispersed in town fields of Birkin (Yorks), namely 3 acres in Long Burn Field, 4 acres in Short Burn Field, 5 acres in East Field and Mearly, at annual rent of £80 and 2 days boon work reserving all timber and coal; to pay 40 s per acre ploughed of Chappell field and Cow Closes in last 4 years of term, or over 60 acres of whole in last 3 years of term; Wright will allow half cost, in first 2 years, for each load of lime, not exceeding 20 loads, and half cost for paring in 1st year; by summer Wright will convert Fusters house into a corn chamber and cart house, and will add to house now leased a ground room, with a chamber over and a fire place in chamber, and will finish ditch in Bawn Springs, and before Candlemas will make a hedge and ditch along far side of great cow close, both ditches to be set with auicksetts; Wright to have liberty to thrash his corn and make manure in his yard until May day. |
