John Henderson (1747-1785) was originally turned down for Drury Lane in 1768, and went on to make his stage debut in Bath in 1772, where he became known as the Bath Roscius. In 1777 he was engaged by Colman for the Haymarket and in the same year began at Drury Lane. He played Falstaff at Covent Garden on 13 Nov 1784 and 1 Nov 1785 and drawings were made of him in this role by Rowlandson, amongst others. |
