Administrative History
Robert Robinson was born on 13 Sep 1886. In 1921 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society and became its youngest member. He was knighted in 1939. In recognition of his work in organic chemistry he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1947. Two years later he received the Order of Merit in the Kings Birthday Honours List. He was also elected an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Chesterfield. He was President of the Royal Society between 1945 and 1950. During his career Robinson held a total of six professorships and was author or joint author of around 350 scientific memoirs. He died in 1975.
