Title
Letters patent 228783 Little John Drum master patent (JBR)
Date
1924
Description
The Little John Drum Patents were never seriously challenged until 1945 when Stevensons of Manchester produced evidence to the effect that the Major Patent 228783 was invalid at the time of grant. JBR consulted Mr Whitehead, KC, and Mr Frank Watson. Mr Whitehead's advice was i) in his view the Patents were not valid ii) the strongest plank in the Robinson platform was the fact that for 11 years there had been no opposition whatsoever and an astronomical number had been sold iii) in his view, however, it would be very difficult for Stevensons now to oppose the Patent iv) this proved to be the case and the Patent was respected until its expiry date (Note by EBR/EAG 21.8.67)
