Administrative HistoryHeanor was the terminus of the Great Northern Railway branch from Ilkeston. This station, opened in 1891, was one of two stations in the town, the other being on the Midland Railway. It was closed to passengers in April 1928, briefly re-opening between October and December 1939. It was closed for freight in October 1963.

This station was informally known as 'Heanor Gate' to distinguish it from the other station. The were officially named 'Heanor North' and 'Heanor South' by British Railways in 1950.
