Description
Messuage and 20 acres 2 roods 39 perches land in Brampton at Hill Top purchased by C D Gladwin from George Alsop of Duckmanton yeoman Mar 1829 for £2060. The title begins with a copy of the will of Robert Turner of Brampton husbandman Jan 1771 (proved at Lichfield Apr 1776), bequeathing his estate, certain legacies excepted, to his son Robert (D522/CW/18/1). Robert executed a series of mortgages and assignments using the property as security (D522/CW/18/2-12). In Sep 1823, Turner conveyed the property to Nathaniel Wheatcroft of Cromford, Wooton Byrchinshaw Thomas of Chesterfield and John Andrew of Wirksworth in trust to sell the property (D522/CW/18/13): payments were made of £300 to Turner, £400 to Robert Marsden (in payment of a mortgage) and £1700 to various other mortgagees. The trustees sold the property in Nov 1826 to George Alsop for £1700 (D522/CW/18/14-16). In Mar 1829, he sold the property to Gladwin (D522/CW/18/17).
