Administrative HistoryThe Broad Bottom ministry refers to the Whig coalition led by Prime Minister Henry Pelham in the House of Commons and his brother the Duke of Newcastle in the House of Lords, between 1744 and 1754. John Leveson-Gower (1694-1754), 1st Earl Gower had been a prominent member of the Tory party before defecting to the Whig's and joined the Broad Bottom ministry.
