Casualty made me acquainted with Mrs Hall, & after an elapse of a length of time there is no secret that she has not acquainted me with, in respect to her acquaintance with you, & I must say I have felt more pleased with her conduct than I had either reason to expect, or merited from her, I feel it therefore a duty I owe her, in case evil disposed persons might be tempted to raise in yr mind a dissatisfaction of her conduct, to acquaint you that I feel disposed (after a certain event which is [page 2] hourly expected) to offer her to share with me in a legitimate way, every thing I possess. I am by no meanse a charge either to you or more particularly yr family, You Sir Goerge & myself spent years together, at the same time as this is meant merely to palliate any change of opinion to the Lady I shd not be anxious that my intentions would be made public, altho' I have no reasons to fear them being so - I [...?] feel a satisfaction in meeting you on yr arrival in town, when I am certain you would be convinced & perfectly satisfied that I am the friend of the Lady and consider her happiness my own.
