Sir,
However unpleasant it may be for one
Gentleman to address another on a subject like the
present one, I still feel a degree of satisfaction
by the candour that has been used towards me.
Casualty made me acquainted with
Mrs Hall, & after an elapse of a length of time
there is no secret that she has not acquainted
me with, in respect to her acquaintance
with you, & I must say I have felt more pleased
with her conduct than I had either reason to
expect, or merited from her, I feel it therefore
a duty I owe her, in case evil disposed persons
might be tempted to raise in yr mind a
dissatisfaction of her conduct, to acquaint
you that I feel disposed (after a certain event which is
[page 2]
hourly expected) to offer her to share with me in
a legitimate way, every thing I possess.
I am by no meanse a charge either
to you or more particularly yr family, You
Sir Goerge & myself spent years together, at the
same time as this is meant merely
to palliate any change of opinion to the Lady
I shd not be anxious that my intentions
would be made public, altho' I have no
reasons to fear them being so - I [...?]
feel a satisfaction in meeting you on yr
arrival in town, when I am certain you
would be convinced & perfectly satisfied
that I am the friend of the Lady and
consider her happiness my own.
I have the honour to remain
your most [...?]
Thos Leveson Prescott
