Administrative History
The prison at Sudbury was opened in 1948 at the site of an American Army Hospital built during World War II. The prison is an open prison, originally housing 300 prisoners serving sentences between 1 and 3 years and the second of its type in the Midlands.
Custodial History
The records were transferred to the Derbyshire Record Office in February 2000 under Section 4(1) of the Public Records Act.
