| Description | Registers recording notification of births relating to infants residing in Derby and therefore visited by the Derby Borough health visitors. These registers record births at various maternity facilities in Derby, including: the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, Derbyshire Hospital for Women, Derbyshire Children's Hospital, Nightingale Nursing Home and Queen Mary Maternity Home, as well as several for Babington Hospital in Belper.
The exact format and content of the registers varies over time, the earlier registers are arranged purely chronological, the later registers arranged chronological by the first letter of the surname. Other information typically includes the mother's surname and address (generally updated when the family move up to two-three years after the birth), institution at which the birth took place, the date of the baby's birth. Still births are often listed separately at the back of a volume. Births of children outside Derby are also recorded separately when the family move into the borough area. |
| Custodial History | The records were deposited by South Derbyshire National Health Service Trust in November 1999. |
