| Administrative History | Bakewell Wildlife Project was established in 1999, following an Environment Agency funded project established the previous year to "create small nature reserves" by the River Wye in Bakewell. Established by Doug Russell who obtained a National Pioneer Millennium Award from the National Lottery Fund, the project was run by a committee of representatives from various partners, with volunteers and support from the Peak District National Park Authority.
The aim of the project was "to encourage community action to enhance Bakewell's natural environment", with objectives including: "create new and improve existing habitats to encourage biodiversity" and "record and monitor species". |
